P0101: Mass air flow circuit range or performance

● Fix soon
Usually drivable for a short time, but check it soon. It can get worse.

The MAF reading does not match what the computer expects for the engine load. The driver may notice hesitation, weak power or poor idle.

Guided check

  1. Is there an air leak or split hose after the sensor?
If yes: Repair it and clear the code.
  2. Is the air filter blocked or the sensor dirty?
If yes: Replace the filter or clean the sensor, then test again.
  3. Is the reading still wrong at idle and under revs after cleaning?
If yes: Check the wiring and connector. If they are good, replace the sensor.

These checks are general and are still being reviewed by working mechanics.

Causes vary by car. Test before you order a part.

Likely causes, most common first

  • Dirty MAF sensor
  • Air leak after the sensor
  • Clogged air filter
  • Faulty MAF sensor

Parts usually involved

Test before you replace

Inspect the air intake for leaks and compare live MAF values with the expected figures for that engine.
